Mission Statement

The surge of innovation in polymer processing during the past several years will be the foundation for high technology manufactoring of polymer products extending well into the next years. That concerns the processes extrusion, blow- and compression-moulding, thermoforming and specially injection moulding. The chosen approach is often referred to as the four P's: Polymer, processing, product and performance.

Content
  • Gas-Assisted Injection Moulding
  • Computer Aided Engineering for Gas-Assisted Injection Moulding
  • Microcellular Plastics
  • Injection Moulding with Fusible Core technology
  • Developments in Advanced Blow Moulding
  • Reactive Liquid Composite Moulding
  • Orientation and Warpage Prediction in Polymer Processing
Learning Outcomes

Knowledge Broadening
The students who successfully finished this module have a detailed competence in the usual methods of industrial plastic processing, also in special methods like microstructure molding or fusible core molding. Also they understand english literature with the special terminoloy and key words in this field.

An excursion is integrated in this module. So the students learn about additional plastic processing methods in the industy and get important impressions of their further profession in the industry.
Knowledge Deepening
Some of the lecture?s chapters are about details of methods they already know. (gas injection molding, simulation methods). All the chapters discussed in the lecture are from a scientific book of plastic processing and they are added by new methods. So the students get the last status of knowledge in these methods.

Instrumental Skills and Competences
They have the competence to understand and discuss english literature in plastics processing. This is very important for their later profession as well in the industry or as a scientist at an institute or university.
Communicative Skills and Competences
They do a summary of the chapters in the Stevenson-book in groups and discuss it in the lecture. So they get the competence of a critical view and discussion of special subjects and problems.
The students also get the competence to discuss issues of scientific plastic processing methods in English.
Further, the excursion to a plastic processing company shows additional aspects and widen their view of the further profession in the industry.
Systemic Skills and Competences
The students have a high competence in plastic processing methods. Also the have the competence to understand and to have a critical view on a scientific book in English.
