Brief description

This module aims at increasing the ability of students to select and use appropriate quantitative and qualitative research approaches, as well as to critically evaluate the outcomes in the context of real-world business case studies.

Remark on the assessment methods

The portfolio-1 exam has a total of 100 points and consists of a homework (50 points) and a one-hour written exam (50 points).

The portfolio-2 exam has a total of 100 points and consists of a homework (50 points) and a report (50 points).

Exam duration and scope

Homework: approx. 10 to 15 pages

Written examination: in accordance with the valid study regulations

Report: Presentation: approx. 20-30 minutes with a written report of approx. 5-10 pages.

The students distinguish the major approaches to empirical research and differentiate phases of research process. 

Knowledge deepening

The students can describe central principles of empirical research, and differentiate terminology and conventions according to different major approaches.

The students are able to critically reflect issues around selection and application of empirical research methods. They can critically examine and justify results in the context of their research questions.

Application and Transfer

Students are able to select and apply appropriate empirical research methods to real-world business case studies.

Students will be able to initiate a data-driven research process. They are able to justify their decisions by means of empirical research methods and comprehensive analysis.
