Brief description

Dealing with scientific writing issues is an important prerequisite for presenting research results in a comprehensible and precise manner and for publishing in scientific journals. The module is intended to develop students' academic writing skills. The topic is chosen in consultation with a supervising lecturer, usually in the context of the Master project or Master thesis. The content and structure of the article should closely follow the "Guidelines for the Authors" of the selected scientific journal. The scientific text can be written in German or English and should be published in full or in excerpts, after review (and marking) by the supervising lecturer. Alternatively, a poster presented at a scientific conference including the corresponding short contribution in the conference proceedings can be accepted by the supervising lecturer.

Furthermore, by participating in conferences, students should gain experience in the organisation of conferences and become familiar with the practices of the respective scientific societies. Scientific conferences are an essential part of the scientific communication process. They provide a forum for presenting the latest research and development results and discussing them critically with well-known expert in the specific subject. By participating in scientific conferences, students gain in-depth insights into current research issues in their area of study and can gain methodological impulses for their own research projects through dialogue with other conference participants. Furthermore, by attending conferences, students become familiar with important techniques of scientific presentation and discussion (e.g. lecture, poster, workshop), which they can later use when presenting their own research results. The conference events to be attended are selected by the supervising lecturers together with the students. Attending conferences also enables students to build up an independent professional network.
