Kurzbeschreibung

The students need practical knowledge of the research process, especially with regard to the analysis of data and the critical evaluation of international literature, in order to prepare for writing their master thesis and for possible subsequent scientific positions. The research workshop facilitates the strengthening of pre-existing knowledge on selected topics of the health sciences and their neighbouring disciplines.

Lehr-Lerninhalte

1) Epistemology and research process - overview and recapitulation

2) Tools of the research process - refresher

3) Introduction to the subject of the current research workshop (alternating) and the research design

4) Quantitative and qualitative methods including appropriate software solutions

5) Group discussions on the topics, literature and the analyses, interpretation and presentation of the results.

Gesamtarbeitsaufwand

Presentation: 30-45 minutes

Report: 20-30 minutes; accompanying paper: 3-5 pages

The requirements are specified in the relevant class.

Empfohlene Vorkenntnisse

Fundamental knowledge of empirical social research (research process), dealing with scientific literature, basics of descriptive and inductive statistics, basics of qualitative methods

Wissensverbreiterung

The broadening of knowledge only plays a subordinate role in the module and for the majority of students refers to the routine application of the respective software used (e.g. SPSS or R). Basic knowledge of the contents and methods covered already exists from the previous studies and previous modules in the curriculum.

Wissensvertiefung

Students strengthen their ability to conduct independent scientific work. They can correctly select, apply and interpret adequate methods to answer relevant current research questions. They are able to critically evaluate the international scientific literature on given questions and derive implications for their own research.

Wissensverst?ndnis

The students are able to combine their previous knowledge and skills from their bachelor studies and the current master's programme, to apply them and to use them for the discussion of research results. They are able to analyse limitations and strengths of their own research work in a differentiated manner and derive implications for the body of knowledge as well as for subsequent research needs.

Nutzung und Transfer

The course primarily serves to directly prepare students for their master thesis. In addition, the students will be enabled to design and support long-term research projects, which will qualify them for subsequent positions in science (especially as research fellows or doctoral candidates). In addition, they can draw adequate conclusions for entrepreneurial decisions from (research) data in order to act in an evidence-oriented and rational manner in practical corporate management.

Wissenschaftliche Innovation

Against the background of the scientific orientation of the module, the scientific innovation value of the module is equivalent to the ability to use and transfer the acquired skills (see above). The students learn the application of good scientific practice.

Kommunikation und Kooperation

Students are able to summarise a wealth of information from different sources and present it in an interesting way. In doing so, they are able to adapt to their audience and respond to questions adequately.

Wissenschaftliches Selbstverst?ndnis / Professionalit?t

The students internalise epistemologically motivated reasoning, corresponding principles of critical thinking and a critical-rational approach to self-generated evidence.

Zusammenhang mit anderen Modulen

The module draws on previous methodological skills acquired in the module "Methods of Data Analysis". From a contents point of view, it builds on different modules of the curriculum depending on the (varying) topics - for example, on modules on digitalisation, quality or change management.
